Welcome to the GIS in PH SIG
Welcome to the site for a special interest group related to GIS in public health and health research in the Chicago, IL area. We have had growing interest in a group of this sort from GIS users at area universities, so we hope to develop and grow a group that would begin meeting together by late fall 2011.
Our aim is to coordinate a network of professionals throughout Chicago whose work combines geographic information systems and public health in some fashion. Our intent is to encourage sharing and networking among those of us doing GIS work via a listserv, and to meet once every few months to learn from each other, collaborate, hear what others are working on, and find opportunities to collaborate with one another. We hope that these activities will serve regular GIS users as well as those who are merely interested in using GIS but have little experience.
